Vito D'AndreaBorn in Rome on January 4th,1959. Graduated "cum laude" in Medicine and Surgery at Sapienza University of Rome on July 29th,1982. In 1982 he was the Youngest Italian Surgeon. Won Ministry of Education national scholarship for post-graduated specializing in Thoracic Surgery at Sapienza University of Rome. Won Prize for Culture 1985 awarded by the Prime Minister's Office.
Since 1986 through 1994 has been in charge of a scientific research section, named "Research Laboratory by Radiohysotopes", of the Normal Human Anatomy Teaching Unit of Sapienza University of Rome. In 1989 was declared elegible by the Board of Adjudicators of the Third Session assessing elegibility for associate professorship, Normal Human Anatomy Group.
Since January 1991 he established as general surgeon in the Department of General Surgery III, today renamed Department of Surgical Sciences, where he is specialist in General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery and Vascular Surgery.
Since February 2002 he established as Associate Professor of General Surgery in the First Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of Sapienza University of Rome.

In 2004 won "ex aequo" E.Ruggieri Prize awarded by the Italian Society for Surgery for the textbook: "R.Bartolucci, L.Battaglia, V.D'Andrea, E.De Antoni: Critical Lower Limb Ischemia. Principles and Practice. Pagg. 1-446, English, Rome, 2002. ISBN : 88-900798-9-4".

Has published about 200 scientific papers, including 84 in international journals listed in Medline/PubMed ( www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed) and 41 listed in "Science Citation Index" , 13 textbooks for medical students and 13 chapters of other textbooks.
In 1997 was the first scientist to describe the features of an unrecognized disease, ANGIOMEGALY, ( J.CARDIOVASC.SURG. 1997;38(1):1-9 ), a discovery that was quoted by Yamamoto N. et al.: Surgery Today,Official Journal of the Japan Surgical Society,2002;32(11):970-3 .
In 1998 was the first scientist to patent the " Bio-conditioning unit for therapeutic transplant organ transport" ( Patent n° 238312 awarded on February 18th, 1998, by the Ministry of Industry ).

His chief Prof. Enrico De Antoni, President of the Italian Society for Surgery, and himself together operate about one hundred "Total Thyroidectomy" per year without major complications. His professional activity is dedicated mainly at "Neck Surgery"( Thyroid, Parathyroids, Parotid and Carotid ).

He is Docent of General Surgery in the Specialistic Course "B" of Degree in Medicine and Surgery at Sapienza University of Rome and Coordinator of the Integrated Course of: Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and General Surgery.
He is Docent of Surgical Anatomy in the Schools of Specialization in General Surgery III, Vascular Surgery I and Digestive Surgery III at Sapienza University of Rome.

He is Consultant Surgeon of the Carabinieri. On August 3rd, 2006 he was declared Active Member of Medical College of the Italian Republic Senate. On September 19th, 2006 he was awarded the Gold Medal for Public Health Value by the President of Italian Republic.
